You Are The Future
Dear Katrina,
As I write this letter, you are somewhere on a beach in Mexico, relaxing and enjoying your Spring Break - as you should! :-) On the occasion of our Leaders & Daughters event tonight in Miami, I wanted to let you know that I believe in you now more than I ever have, and I want to share with you how committed I am to seeing a better future for you and other women of your generation.
You are the future, and you and your fellow female leaders have the ability to change the course of this country and the world. You will undoubtedly encounter many challenges along the way, but I am confident that you will overcome those obstacles and persevere through the toughest of times that may yet come.
Why do I know this? It’s because I have seen you succeed throughout your entire life - from the early days in pre-kindergarten, through elementary, on to junior high, and then high school, and now college. I still remember when you made the (then) toughest decision of your life, choosing a high school where you would have to, in essence, start anew with friendships. You were cool and calm under pressure (yes, I admit, that pressure was mostly inflicted upon you by me), and ultimately came to a decision you could live with.
I saw how much you flourished in that environment! I was also there when you first took on volleyball, and despite your height disadvantage, you never stopped working hard trying to be the best version of yourself. I’m sure there will be more challenges along the way, and you can count on both your mother and me to provide you with the encouragement and support that you need.
As we have always talked about, faith is an important part of the journey, and you have shown that you are a faith-filled person, and that will also help you weather the tough times. Let’s focus on the positive times, of which there are assuredly many more to come as you find your way in the business world and become a leader in your own right. I love you always, and hope to be there for you as you experience this journey!
Love, Dad
