To Emma, on her college graduation

To my dear sweet Emma-

I fell in love with you the minute you were born on that beautiful, magical Sunday afternoon February 19,1995. You were such a sweet, peaceful baby - a true Sunday’s child. This was the start of our journey together. We have shared so many amazing experiences, and I have loved being your mom. I will always be your biggest fan! It has been a joy to see you become such an accomplished young woman.

On May 21st, your college graduation will represent another magical day. The day you start your next chapter in life and I am sure it will be wonderful. Attending Bucknell was your dream – and mine for you - but you did the work, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished! I love your tenacity. It was not always easy, but you embraced every challenge with the belief that you could achieve what you set your mind to. And you did – congratulations!

Your talents and achievements are many, but I am most proud of you for your compassion and empathy for others. You are a wise soul, and I have always appreciated your kindness and the thoughtful advice that you share with our family. You can always be counted on to help with projects, and you willingly sign up to help others. It is a treat to eat the delicious meals you prepare for your dad and I. You have a natural talent for creating amazing healthy recipes. I also look forward to the time we spend together in the weekends going to yoga and lunch or just hanging out. Stay true to yourself and these traits – they are your super powers in life and make you the unique person that you are!

You will get lots of advice on how to live your life. There is only one piece of advice that I would like to give you. Love yourself – always be true to yourself and trust your inner compass to guide you. Remember it starts with you, and if you love yourself you will be able to love others and give unconditionally. This is not about being selfish, it is about being authentic and being you, so you can bring joy and happiness to yourself and others. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your mom! I have learned so much from you and will always love you and be grateful that I was picked to have such a special daughter.

Love always, Mom XOXO
