Dear Amani,

As you are turning into a beautiful young strong woman, I wanted to tell you how much I love you will have your back always.

This year was surreal as I lost my mother who passed that fierceness in her spirit onto me. My mother (your grandmother) lived her life on her own terms, unafraid and a giving force in the universe right to the end. She urged me to push my limits and live an un-ordinary life, her spirit carries on in me and then in you.

Remember to follow your own heart and not the crowd, remember that life is built on giving and building relationships. You want to leave your mark on the world and for that you will get uncomfortable many times. Never give up my sweet darling, be fierce, be strong and forceful and mostly be very very kind. Kind to your family and then to those who don’t know, those who deserve love and kindness from this world.
